A major milestone for the Ethiopia NITAG was achieved when it held its first executive meeting on the 22nd of August, 2016. The meeting was chaired by His Excellency Dr. Kebede Worku, State Minister of the Federal Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The meeting was attended by 6 Core members, 2 Ex-officio, 3 Liaison and 1 Secretariat member. In this meeting, Prof. Yemane Berhane was appointed as the chair of the Ethiopia NITAG and will serve in this capacity for the next three years.
The Ethiopia NITAG was officially appointed in May 2016 and an orientation workshop was held to inform members about their roles and responsibilities. The Ethiopia NITAG gives advice concerning the National Immunization Policy and will provide scientific evidence-based recommendations to the Federal Ministry of Health, which will then issue directives and policy as applicable.
The group is working now on its workplan for the year ahead and hopes to have it ready before its next meeting due to be held on November 17th, 2016. The committee will meet every 3 months and will be in contact regularly.
