Abstract
In consideration of the background, CAVEI recommends:
- Defering general vaccination of pregnant women until evidence is available on safety and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines in that group, coming from the clinical studies of vaccines authorized for use in Chile.
- Carry out inadvertent vaccination surveillance in pregnant women, that is, of cases of women who are vaccinated in ignorance of their state of pregnancy.
- Maintaining in the general population, and in pregnant women in particular, the measures of prevention of infection and control of SARS-CoV-2 in force in the country: use of mask, hand washing, physical distancing, teleworking, quarantines and others measures adopted within the framework of the Step by Step plan of the Government of Chile
- In the event that the benefits of COVID-19 vaccination outweigh the risks of inoculation, women with more than three months of gestation could choose to receive the vaccine COVID-19 inactivated CoronaVac, provided that an informed consent is signed that includes information on the lack of evidence on the safety and efficacy of the vaccine COVID-19 in pregnant women.
- In the event that the benefits of COVID-19 vaccination outweigh the risks of inoculation, breastfeeding women may choose to receive COVID-19 vaccines after receiving counseling on the lack of evidence on the safety and efficacy of the vaccine COVID-19 in that group.
- Previously issued recommendations may change as new evidence become available, especially regarding the safety and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines during the pregnancy and lactation.
